Gustaaf Geeraerts is Professor of International Relations at the VUB.
He is also Honorary Professor at the University of Kent at Canterbury, and an Editorial Board member of Global Society: Journal of Interdisciplinary International Relations. He has held a Guest Professorship in Political Science at Renmin University in Beijing since 1999. From 1986 to 1990 he was based at the Department of International Relations at the State University of Utrecht, and during that period he was also a member of the Board of Lecturers of the Centre for Advanced Research in International Affairs in the Netherlands (CARIAN).
His research interests centre on international relations theory, global governance and security in Europe and East Asia. He is currently working on the problem of explanation in post-positivist International Relations Theory.
His recent work has been published in the journals Global Society and Studia Diplomatica. He co-authored Dimensions of Peace and Security, published by Peter Lang in 2005. A book on foreign policy integration in the EU which he wrote with his Chinese colleague from Fudan University, Chen Zhimin, was published by Shishi Publishing House in Beijing in 2003 and received a Shanghai Research Reward in 2004.
