Irina Stefuriuc is a policy officer at the European Commission and an affiliated scholar at the VUB.
Her current research interests include corruption, good governance and the nexus between development and corruption. In the past, she focused on federalism and devolution processes, political parties and party systems, electoral competition and government formation. Her book Government formation in Multi-Level Settings: Party Strategy and Institutional Constraints (2013, Palgrave Macmillan) examines examined the dynamics of coalition politics in multilevel settings, focusing on the interaction between regional and national government formation in Spain and Germany.
Irina joined the VUB in 2004 and obtained her PhD in 2008. Prior to this, she studied politics at the University of Bucharest (1998-2002) and obtained her MA degree in political science from the Central European University (Budapest) in 2003.
